Concept2: If you’re in the rowing community like me, you know that Concept2 is a game-changer. Established in 1976, they’ve been supplying us rowers with high-quality ergometers or ergs. These machines are indispensable, offering a simulated rowing experience that lets us train come rain, shine, or snow.
Online Rowing Challenges: Technology has opened up incredible avenues, one of them being the ability to row competitively without even leaving the house. Platforms like the Concept2 Logbook allow us to participate in these global challenges, keeping tabs on our performance.
Fall Team Challenge: The annual Fall Team Challenge by Concept2 is the event we’ve been preparing for. It’s more than just a competition; it’s a global gathering of rowing enthusiasts, testing their mettle against one another, all in the spirit of good fun and intense rivalry.
The 2023 Fall Team Challenge: A Firsthand Account
It’s been an exciting four days for me in this year’s Fall Team Challenge. Despite grappling with what feels like an endless flu, I’ve managed to row at least 5,000 meters a day and I’m gunning for 10,000 meters soon. I’ve been pushing myself to the limit, and my metrics speak for themselves:
Our Team Rankings
- Global Rank: #87
- Team Distance Covered: 151,384m
My team from the Potomac Boat Club has been nothing short of inspirational. We’re a small group, just seven of us, but we’ve already clocked in 151,384 meters. Kudos to 72-year-old Andrew Narva, who’s truly setting the pace with a whopping 50,000 meters!
The Health Rewards and Team Dynamics
I’ve always considered rowing a comprehensive workout, and it’s been indispensable in strengthening my knees and legs. My training regimen involves slow-rowing for 60-90 minutes, interspersed with high-intensity bursts (hard 10s and hard 20s), a great way to bring in some HIIT elements.
The Essence of Teamwork
The togetherness I’ve felt with my teammates is immeasurable. I’m eager for Frederich Lightner and Stuart Kerr to join us soon, expanding our community and camaraderie. Team performance is crucial, but it’s the friendships we’re forming that make the journey worthwhile.
